NCARB Announces Architectural Experience Program Updates

NCARB has updated the Architectural Experience Program (AXP) to further align with its new Competency Standard for Architects and to expand access to licensure effective Nov. 18, 2025. Key changes include a new experience reporting policy. NCARB has replaced the five-year reporting rule with a new policy granting 100% credit for experience up to one year old and 75% credit for any experience older than one year with no time limitation. They have also refreshed descriptions of the six experience areas and expanded opportunities to earn experience through additional approved professional development courses. NCARB will now accept HSW continuing education from AIA and other pre-approved providers. These updates do not change total required hours, and no candidate will lose credit because of the updates. The changes support NCARB’s broader Pathways to Practice initiative, which aims to create a more flexible licensure model. To learn more about the changes, read the full press release HERE.
