It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of one of our AIA Members, colleague and dear friend, Carlos Ruiz de Quevedo, AIA Emeritus.
Carlos Ruiz de Quevedo, born on February 22, 1950, in Cuba, passed away on July 16, 2026, in Hendersonville, NC. His life was a testament to faith, service, and love.
Carlos came to the United States seeking a brighter future and built a beautiful life with Cathy, his devoted wife of fifty-three years. The couple first met on a beach in Puerto Rico in 1970 and married two years later. Together, they established their home in Miami, where Carlos graduated from the University of Miami and pursued a career as a licensed architect. In their later years, Carlos and Cathy relocated to Hendersonville, NC, to enjoy their retirement.
A man deeply committed to his community and his faith, Carlos served on various city planning boards and was an active member of Rotary clubs in both Miami and Hendersonville. He also held the role of elder at Granada Presbyterian Church for many years. Carlos is survived by his sister Irma; his two sons, Daniel (Monique) and David (Nikki); and his four cherished grandchildren. His legacy of friendship, service, and devotion will continue to inspire those blessed to have known him. A service celebrating Carlos’ life will be held at Grace Blue Ridge Church, 109 Florence St., Hendersonville, NC, on Thursday, July 30th at 4 p.m.
