This year’s Soccer Tournament is a family-oriented event that will bring design and construction-related fields together for a fun day of healthy competition and constant networking!

During the tournament, all players and sponsors will have the opportunity to network with attendees from AIA Fort Lauderdale, AIA Miami, and FLDCP and reconnect with existing contacts. As a family-oriented event, kids can enjoy the fields when available. After all games are completed, an award ceremony will honor the first, second, and third places the single player with the most goals scored, and the best goalie!

About Architects in the Making

Architects In the Making (AIM) is AIA Miami’s youth educational program supported by local volunteer leading architects. Since 2006, AIM helped inspire and shape the next generation of architects and designers. Hosted at the University of Miami School of Architecture, AIM provides a hands-on summer camp for 8 – 16 year old’s. Kids get to interact with architects, learn about the fundamentals of design, have fun building projects, and model them in software like SketchUp and Minecraft!

The first mass timber structure in Miami Dade Coun

The first mass timber structure in Miami Dade County, Mass Making, opens up to offer Open House Miami, visitors a storyline on the regional history of Southern Yellow Pine mass timber and the implementation process in Miami and the region. In collaboration with architects @ateliermey, the @lu_lab_miami at the University of Miami will transform the site into an exhibition and gallery of mass timber artifacts, University of Miami School of Architecture @u_soa projective design explorations, and ongoing projects the LU_Lab is working on that explore regional, ecologically responsible building in Miami. This unique opportunity hopes to inspire and serve the public on resilient building practices. #OpenHouseMia

Dear Friends, Colleagues and family of our dear Cheryl:

On November 1, 2023, Cheryl had a stroke. Fortunately, she received immediate medical attention (Yay, Jackson Stroke Center!!!) and, after two months, is on the road to recovery. She is improving every day but has a long path ahead of her.

We are raising funds to help with the long-term medical care that will be required for Cheryl to recover.

Please consider donating to this fund, as Cheryl will need 24/7 care for many months. She is making great strides in her recovery, but at this point, the speech, physical, and occupational therapies that she will require, in addition to home health aides, will make a considerable dent in her finances.

Your contribution will go towards the care of one of the most creative, brilliant, hilarious, fierce, loving and kind people we have ever had the pleasure of knowing.

2024 Christopher Kelley Leadership Development Pro

2024 Christopher Kelley Leadership Development Program Deadline is December 8th!

Beginning in 2017, the AIA Miami chapter undertook the initiative to develop a program which would help train and nurture the next generation of leaders following in the footsteps of the AIA DC chapter who created the program in 2013. This program, titled the Christopher Kelley Leadership Development Program (CKLDP), has been offered in Miami since 2017.

Based on the program’s success, AIA Miami in partnership with AIA Fort Lauderdale, looks to secure a promising faction of scholars for its of 2023-2024. The year‐long program consists of nine (9) individual half‐day sessions attended by a competitively selected group of sixteen (16) emerging professionals (an emerging professional is defined as a graduate from college with an architecture degree and within 10 years of licensure). Prospective participants must go through an application process for selection where proven career success, community involvement and the individual’s firm/agency support will be considered.

Buildings and Projects 2009-2023

Work Table(au) is an architectural exhibition presenting the recent work of Associate Professor Jason R. Chandler, FAIA. 10 projects, 6 which have been built and 4 which are in process or unbuilt are displayed on a single “work” table 3-foot-wide by 33-feet long. Each project is represented with design and working drawings, photographs, renderings, and models. Seen in its totality, this display is a calculated but picturesque arrangement of the production of architecture.

The exhibition runs until January 19, 2024.

It’s Time! Apply Now for the AIA Miami Diversity Scholarship

Architecture plays a vital role in the shaping of our communities, yet the Architecture profession is profoundly lacking in diversity, specifically Black American representation. While Black Americans make up 14% of the US population*, out of over 116,000 nationally registered architects, they represent a dismal 2.0% with Black American women representing a staggering less than 0.5%. In its continued commitment to actionable accountability through increasing the diversification of the Architectural profession, AIA Miami is offering a scholarship program specific to the advancement of Black Americans into the profession. The scholarship will strategically focus on education, with the aim of providing opportunities to facilitate an increase in the number of black American architecture graduates; with the potential of becoming licensed professionals, a forward step in closing the racial disparity gap within the profession.

The Black American Diversity Scholarship supports the recruitment and retention of Black Americans in accredited architectural degree programs by assisting scholarship recipients with offsetting the cost of tuition, books, and materials. A minimum of one scholarship valued up to $4,500 will be awarded annually. The number and value of awards may vary year-to-year based on applications and available funds.

Each scholarship recipient receives AIA Miami community exposure, in addition to the funds towards an architecture NAAB accredited degree cost.
