Allied Member of the Year

Recognizes an Allied Member whose contributions have advanced the profession of architecture and strengthened the design and construction community through leadership, collaboration, innovation, and service.

Design Consultant of the Year

Recognizes a consulting firm, including engineering, landscape architecture, technology, planning, specialty consulting, or related disciplines, whose expertise and collaboration have contributed significantly to the success of architectural projects and the built environment.

General Contractor of the Year

Recognizes a general contractor whose commitment to quality, professionalism, collaboration, and excellence in construction has contributed to the successful realization of architectural projects and the advancement of the industry.

Developer of the Year

Recognizes a developer whose vision, leadership, and investment have positively influenced the built environment through projects that contribute to the economic, cultural, and social vitality of the community.

Educator of the Year

Honoring a faculty member at DASH, MDC, FIU, or UM whose dedication to teaching, mentorship, and academic leadership has made a significant impact on architectural education and the development of future design professionals.

Leadership in Government

Recognizes an elected official, public servant, or governmental leader whose efforts have advanced architecture, urban design, sustainability, resilience, planning, or the quality of the built environment within the community.

Associate of the Year (Members Only)

Recognizes an Associate AIA or International Associate member who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, professional achievement, service to the profession, and commitment to advancing architecture.

Emerging Professional of the Year (Members Only)

Recognizes an architect licensed for less than ten years who has demonstrated exceptional professional achievement, leadership, service, and promise for continued contributions to the profession and community.

Architect of the Year (Members Only)

Honoring an Architect licensed for 10 years or more whose distinguished accomplishments, leadership, service, and contributions have advanced the profession of architecture and positively impacted the community.

Small Firm of the Year (Members Only) — $225

Recognizes an architectural firm with ten or fewer full-time employees that has demonstrated excellence in design, practice, leadership, and service to the profession. The firm principal must be a member of AIA Miami. The jury may elect to honor a Small Firm as Firm of the Year.

Firm of the Year (Members Only) — $225

Recognizes an architectural firm that has consistently demonstrated excellence in design, professional practice, leadership, mentorship, and service to the profession and community. The firm principal must be a member of AIA Miami.

Cheryl Jacobs Award

Honoring an individual who is not an architect but through their long-term service to AIA Miami has furthered the mission of the association and championed the architecture profession in Miami. Bestowing this award is solely at the discretion of the Board of Directors.

It is bestowed on a non-architect member with a distinguished record of service that shall be:

• More than 10 years.
• In leadership roles within AIA Miami or other organizations related to the profession of architecture.

The person’s body of work must have influenced more than one facet of the profession, including education, research, literature, design, practice management, advocacy or public service.

Silver Medal (Members Only)

The Silver Medal is the highest honor the chapter can bestow on one of its members. Named in honor of H. Samuel Kruse, in honor of his 40 years of continued service to the chapter and the profession, this award recognizes an individual architect’s accomplishments in architecture, as well as leadership and service to the profession over an extended period of time, thereby advancing the profession and the cause of good architecture, while providing an inspiration to fellow architects.

An architect having an extended design career who has received a minimum of ten (10) AIA Awards (local, state, or national) may be considered a candidate for a Silver Medal Award for Design.

An architect whose career has encompassed a minimum of ten (10) years as an AIA Member with exemplary service to the architectural profession who can present a complete dossier showing their participation in furthering the goals of the profession (local, state or national) may be considered to be a candidate for a Silver Medal Award for Service.

Nominations may be made by any five (5) Architect members in Good Standing and/or by a committee appointed by the Board of Directors.

Hall of Fame (Members Only)

The AIA Miami Hall of Fame Award recognizes individuals whose distinguished body of work has made a lasting and significant contribution to the architecture, built environment, and cultural identity of Miami. This honor celebrates architects whose careers have demonstrated sustained design excellence, leadership, innovation, and a profound impact on the community through their professional achievements.

Recipients shall have contributed to shaping the architectural character of Miami through a portfolio of work that has enriched the city’s physical landscape and influenced the profession. Consideration may also be given to an individual’s mentorship, advocacy, service, and commitment to advancing architecture and the quality of life within the community.

The Hall of Fame Award is intended to recognize a lifetime or career-long legacy whose influence will continue to inspire future generations of architects and contribute to the ongoing evolution of Miami’s architectural heritage.

Nominations may be made by any five (5) Architect members in Good Standing and/or by a committee appointed by the Board of Directors.
