MEET THE 2025 AIA MIAMI PRESIDENT-ELECT Jamie Mac

MEET THE 2025 AIA MIAMI PRESIDENT-ELECT

Jamie MacNichol, AIA is a Senior Architect at 10SB where he manages large scale Hospitality
and Multi-family projects. Originally from New Hope, PA, he received his Bachelor of
Architecture degree from Virginia Tech. Jamie became involved with the AIA during his
undergraduate studies, serving on the Virginia Tech AIAS board as Treasurer, President, and
then Past President. In these roles, he focused on securing chapter funding and increasing
membership. He also served on the AIA Blue Ridge board as the student representative.

After graduating from architecture school, Jamie worked at Winstanley Architects and Planners
in Alexandria, Virginia. While there, he worked primarily on mixed use, hospitality and
education projects. He served on the AIA DC Emerging Architects Committee, the AIA Northern
Virginia Schools Connection Committee, and the Northern Virginia Young Architects Forum. He
then served as the Vice Chair of the Young Architects Forum in 2019. Jamie is also an alumni
of the AIA Virginia Emerging Leaders in Architecture (ELA) of 2017. While in Virginia, he
completed his ARE’s, becoming a registered architect in 2019.

Jamie relocated to Miami at the end of 2019, where he continued to work on hospitality and
mixed-use projects. After moving, he quickly became involved with AIA Miami. He was a
member of the CKLDP Class of 2020, and he currently serves as President Elect on the board.

Jamie joined the AIA Miami Board of directors in 2022, serving as a Director through 2023, Vice President through 2024 before, being elected to his current President Elect role for the 2025 calendar year.

From Jamie’s early involvement in AIAS through his recent roles on the YAF and EPC
Committees, he’s met many students, associates, and other young architects with unique
perspectives and ideas. He believes young and emerging architects have a wealth of varying
perspectives to contribute to their fellow architects, the AIA, and the profession as a whole.

AIA Fort Lauderdale, AIA Miami, and FLDCP chapters

AIA Fort Lauderdale, AIA Miami, and FLDCP chapters are joining for the 6th Annual Soccer Tournament. This is a family-oriented event that will bring design and construction-related fields together for a fun day of healthy competition and constant networking!

The Tournament will consist of 20 teams composed of architects, architectural emerging professionals, architectural students, engineers, contractors, and vendors.

During the length of the tournament, all players and sponsors will have the opportunity to network with attendees from AIA Fort Lauderdale, AIA Miami, and FLDCP as well as to reconnect with existing contacts. As a family-oriented event, kids are welcome to enjoy the fields when available as this will be a close door event.

After all games are completed, an award ceremony will honor the first, second, and third places, the single-player with the most goals scored, and the best goalie!

MEET THE 2025 AIA MIAMI PRESIDENT Vanessa Smith T

MEET THE 2025 AIA MIAMI PRESIDENT

Vanessa Smith Torres, AIA is a Puerto Rican born Architect based in Miami, FL. She received a Bachelors from Northeastern University and a Master of Architecture from Tulane University.
Vanessa acts as Project Architect at Perkins & Will, Miami. She has worked on award winning
projects in various market sectors - from Hospitality to Education to Healthcare.

In addition to her experience teaching at FAU School of Architecture, Vanessa’s involvement with youth
programs such as The National Organization of Minority Architects’ Project Pipeline and Youth
Rebuilding New Orleans Schools has provided rare insight to shaping learning spaces to
address needs of students from students themselves.

Vanessa specializes in building design
for performance and wellness, and is knowledgeable in building certification programs such as LEED, WELL, SITES, and the Living Building Challenge. Committed to building a more equitable profession, Vanessa has served on the National Organization of Minority Architects
Chapter boards in South Florida (SoFloNOMA) and Louisiana (NOMALA). She was the 2021
President of SoFloNOMA and currently serves as President of AIA Miami and co-chair of
the Women in Architecture Committee.

Join AIA Miami’s Hard Hat Tour Committee, FDOT a

Join AIA Miami’s Hard Hat Tour Committee, FDOT and GMX for a hard hat tour of the I-395/SR 836/I-95 Project. This project is a partnership between the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the Greater Miami Expressway Agency (GMX) Construction is expected to be completed in late 2027 at a cost of $840 million.

The location will be on Watson Island, and the address is TBD. We will notify you of the address closer to the tour date.

- This is a ticketed event

- Note that there will be a lot of walking.

- This is a hard hat tour, so wear work boots and hard hats.

- Note: This is for industry professionals ONLY. No students or general public are permitted.

- Space is extremely limited.
