Buildings and Projects 2009-2023

Work Table(au) is an architectural exhibition presenting the recent work of Associate Professor Jason R. Chandler, FAIA. 10 projects, 6 which have been built and 4 which are in process or unbuilt are displayed on a single “work” table 3-foot-wide by 33-feet long. Each project is represented with design and working drawings, photographs, renderings, and models. Seen in its totality, this display is a calculated but picturesque arrangement of the production of architecture.

The exhibition runs until January 19, 2024.

It’s Time! Apply Now for the AIA Miami Diversity Scholarship

Architecture plays a vital role in the shaping of our communities, yet the Architecture profession is profoundly lacking in diversity, specifically Black American representation. While Black Americans make up 14% of the US population*, out of over 116,000 nationally registered architects, they represent a dismal 2.0% with Black American women representing a staggering less than 0.5%. In its continued commitment to actionable accountability through increasing the diversification of the Architectural profession, AIA Miami is offering a scholarship program specific to the advancement of Black Americans into the profession. The scholarship will strategically focus on education, with the aim of providing opportunities to facilitate an increase in the number of black American architecture graduates; with the potential of becoming licensed professionals, a forward step in closing the racial disparity gap within the profession.

The Black American Diversity Scholarship supports the recruitment and retention of Black Americans in accredited architectural degree programs by assisting scholarship recipients with offsetting the cost of tuition, books, and materials. A minimum of one scholarship valued up to $4,500 will be awarded annually. The number and value of awards may vary year-to-year based on applications and available funds.

Each scholarship recipient receives AIA Miami community exposure, in addition to the funds towards an architecture NAAB accredited degree cost.

Samantha is an Associate Professional and current Educator currently in pursuit of architecture licensure. She has always had an insatiable curiosity about the world around her and how design can change the lives of others for the better. She enjoys giving her time and energy to help others through mentorship and volunteering, to name a few. Some of her interests include sustainability, healthcare, daylighting design, and cycling. Samantha currently sits on the AIA Miami Board as Miami Dade College School of Architecture representative. After licensure, Samantha hopes to use her registration to broaden her professional abilities and continue to help others in the profession.

Come and meet Mariana Ferreira at the Women in Architecture Leadership Summit 2023.

Designing with humans and community in mind, touching on how emotional intelligence and an acute sense of self and awareness of our community helps us grow as designers and individuals

Originally from Brazil, Mariana Ferreira is a very passionate designer who embodies the idea of transforming the profession; she believes in creating change for communities. After working with the organization A CASA, which builds homes for women in rural areas, she is now at Stantec, where she brings a fresh perspective about how we can design with the community in mind to a more large-scale design firm. In her own words: “I would like to introduce myself every day, but I do it with myself - recognizing myself as routine. Architecture, for me, is the guide to live the adventures I desire and to unblock interjected limiting aspects. I am allowing myself to live and speak of love as political resistance and invite the analytical mind to craft technical innovations aimed at systemic transformations. I work with intensity for dreams that serve the earth and public liberation. I see a future of great pleasure to everyone.”

Mariana is the most recent recipient of the AIA Miami and Fort Lauderdale Emerging Professional Awards for Jurors Choice.
