AIA Miami Women’s Leadership Summit 2020 “Riding the Wave”
Women in Architecture

The architecture profession has historically been male dominated. Today, approximately 50% of architecture students are women. However, only 18% of licensed architects are women.

AIA Miami Women in Architecture Committee works to support women architects at all stages in their profession through networking, mentorship, and educational sessions.

Since 2009, a national conversation for women in architecture and design has been held biannually, the AIA Women’s Leadership Summit. AIA Miami’s Women in Architecture Committee began extending that conversation locally with the 2018 Summit, “The Wave of Change.” We will continue the conversation towards a more inclusive profession with “Riding the Wave,” in June 2020. “Riding the Wave” provides a platform to celebrate and share the work of women leaders in Architecture, Engineering, and Construction, while providing inspiration for professional and personal growth. It is a conversation on the challenges facing women if diverse backgrounds today in advancing their careers and achieving equity and inclusion in the A/E/C professions.

The industry is becoming more diverse, however more needs to be accomplished. WIA Miami brings together thought leaders from across the country to discuss Riding the Wave of activism and increased awareness, building upon existing momentum to advance inclusion in the industry. This conference will focus on leadership, mentorship, and inclusion – providing pathways for emerging professionals to capitalize on the changing environment, and how emerging and seasoned professionals can work together to build a more equitable profession.

Hard Hat Tour is Tomorrow❗️

This cruise terminal is the first of its kind, due to its streamlined design, seaside textures, interactive technology, and personalized embarkation experience. The firm’s iconic design of this all-glass terminal will feature a spiraled, multilevel façade that opens up to stunning ocean views. The exterior design features three giant, arching, see-through domes that resemble three pearls shaped like a nautilus.

Imagine the grandness of entering this space. This 166,000 SF structure will span a distance that exceeds the length of two consecutive football fields. With the main foyer reaching heights of over 11 stories, this ultramodern facility will redefine the landscape of the Miami skyline.
.
To additionally enhance the passenger experience, the terminal will be built with steel columns and shaped with flat aluminum panels, which will give it a very smooth finish that further recalls the surface of a pearl. The interior design complements this infrastructure to create an inviting, modern, oceanic ambiance.
