The Storm Drain Art Project

September 26 - November 17

Description

The Storm Drain Art Project is a collaborative stencil design initiative aimed at engaging the community and raising awareness about the environmental impact of trash pollution. Florida International University, along with students from the BFA Digital Arts in Graphic Design course (GRA 4818), partnered with the City of Miami’s Art in Public Places, the Office of Resilience and Sustainability, Ocean Conservancy, and Shores Forward to bring the project to life.

The selected stencil design will be painted on storm drains throughout the City of Miami, serving as powerful visual reminders of the importance of keeping our waterways clean. By discouraging littering and illegal dumping, the project emphasizes how individual actions can help protect the environment and public health—particularly in vulnerable communities. At its core, this initiative combines education, creativity, and environmental activism—empowering students to take an active role in sustainability while promoting a cleaner, healthier, and more inclusive urban future.
