Failure is Not an Option: Risk Mitigation for Healthcare Facilities presented by GAF

August 16

2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Description

Healthcare facilities are often complex buildings that require holistic solutions to meet the performance needs demanded by critical facilities. Sophisticated mechanical systems are used to prevent the transmission of airborne diseases, which requires a comprehensive solution for air control within the building enclosure – all six sides. This session will consider the role the roof, walls, below-grade areas, and plaza decks play and how to mitigate design risk. An understanding of how air moves, the potential for condensation and moisture accumulation, and how to achieve control layer continuity is critical for a successful design. Control layer continuity will be evaluated across the entire building enclosure with several real life examples and related strategies to mitigate risk.

Learning objectives

  • Learn to illustrate and communicate the impact of air leakage on the design and performance of the building enclosure.
  • Build the knowledge necessary to evaluate moisture durability and design considerations.
  • Review the importance of moisture, air, thermal, and vapor continuity in the building enclosure.
  • Analyze strategies to provide control layer continuity across the building enclosure.
