Embodied Carbon Strategies in Design by Socotec Consulting

July 25

12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

How do you reduce carbon in a building? Look at the materials. Learn Embodied Carbon Strategies in Design from experts in sustainability.

Embodied carbon has become an increasing focus in the building industry, on both federal and local levels. The Embodied Carbon Strategies in Design course gives an introduction to ways of incorporating embodied carbon considerations throughout the design process. The course begins with the basics scopes of embodied carbon and how it’s measured, and goes through applicable actions during each phase of the design process. Finally, the course gives examples of embodied carbon reduction strategies in several high impact material categories, along with case studies and certifications alignment.

Reducing embodied carbon emissions in the built environment postiviely impacts human health through reducing direct emissions. Through these reductions, we are able to reduce impacts due to climate, which improves our resiliency and human safety.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the definition and importance of embodied carbon.
  2. Survey pathways and scopes of embodied carbon analysis/life-cycle analysis.
  3. Learn how to address embodied carbon through the design process.
  4. Reference examples of embodied carbon reduction strategies and case studies.
  5. Understand how embodied carbon is represented in certification schemes.
  6. Join this virtual event on July 25th from 12pm-1pm. Event link will be sent to those who register.

The course is pending for 1 AIA HSW/LU.
